Book Review: One Call Away: Answering Life's Challenges with Unshakable Faith by Brenda Warner

Brenda Warner... Daughter, Sister, Marine, Mother and Wife of Kurt Warner... tells the story of her life. She shares the heartbreak, the happiness, and every moment in-between. The book is meant to be inspiring, to give women hope that even in the darkest hour, God will be there to lift you up and answer your prayers, even if they aren’t answered in a way that seems clear at the time.

I first heard Brenda Warner speak at Women of Faith, and was very anxious to read her book. I must say, she is extremely open and honest, even when what is she is writing is not at all flattering. Part of me wanted to hate how manipulative, possessive, and self-absorbed she was, but then I realize I would be hating myself because every word she wrote described me... only I could never admit that to millions of people. Her honestly is what kept me reading page after page. It’s always amazing to see how someone who came from so little can become so much, and give so much back to others.

While reading this book may not make you love Brenda, you will be able to relate to her. She makes a comment when referring to her 2 miscarriages, “And although I was thankful for my five healthy children, that didn’t lessen the loss I felt over the one I didn’t have. I’d rather have my baby in my arms…” Having lost a child myself, it made me realize I wasn’t alone in my pain since I had that same thought multiple times. That feeling of knowing there is someone out there that can relate to the things you have gone through makes this book worth the read.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

I started reading this book at the suggestion of my Mother-in-Law almost 1 year ago. I looked back at my Kindle purchase history, and I bought it on October 10, 2010. I started it a couple of times and could never get into it. Then a friend said, "just keep going... it will all come together." I am so happy I listened to her. Once I got into it, I couldn't put it down, and it's a long book. I'm not even much of a crime book reader, but there was something about how this was written... I guess the suspense and the fact that everyone was a suspect. And of course, the nosey person in me just had to know, "What really happened to Harriet?"

I will definitely be reading the next book in Stieg Larsson's Millennium series, but first, it's "Moonwalking with Einstein".

Until next time...

Dolls, Dolls, Dolls

I was supposed to keep you updated about my cake progress, but since that was 2 years ago, I might as well just update you on my latest obsession... waldorf dolls. You're probably thinking, "what a sweet gift for Mikayla". And while I have let her design a custom doll, I was using it as an excuse to continue to shop for myself. They are just so cute and loveable with their own personalities. Have I lost it? Maybe... but it won't keep me from obsessing over it.
